TRAX Ultra Management System

The TRAX system is a tracking system for Ultramarathons. The system uses the LoRa network to connect TRAX beacons to each other, this connection creates a mesh network that can span hundreds of kms with no cellular connection and allow the race director and others to monitor competitor safety whilst on course. Using the button runners are able to notify the race director if help is required in an emergency situation.

MY AIM WITH TRAX IS TO INCREASE THE SAFETY OF ULTRA RUNNERS WHILE ON COURSE AND TO ENCOURAGE THE GROWTH OF ULTRAMARATHONS WHILST KEEPING THEM AFFORDABLE

Ben C

An ultramarathon is a running race over 42kms in length that can last from hours to days and often involves rough and remote environments.

The TRAX beacon uses the LoRa network to connect with the race director. The beacon itself is made using injection moulding. it uses PPMD15 plastic which has a TPE Co moulded button that has translucent properties.

A major advantage of LoRa is the battery life possible, the TRAX will last over 10 days with its 3.7v 1000mah li-ion battery.

The design of TRAX is inspired by the environment runners traverse, the geometric pattern on the front was created to mimic the randomness of mountains and valleys with no two the same. The large X button pays homage to x marks the spot, with the finger able to find the concave style large button easily day or night.
The charging case offers a convenient way to store and charge multiple devices at once.

There’s no on/off button, the device automatically turns on when removed from the case and goes to sleep mode when inserted back.
