The Smart Harvest Gloves

The Smart Harvest Gloves were designed around the topic, “How can commercial Australian tree crop farms effectively apply technology to improve their efficiency in harvesting”. The smart gloves use machining learning and sensors to help educate and alert pickers on the correct sizes and reduce the amount of premature fruit picked contributing to food waste. This research and user driven solution will help improve the harvesting processes of tree crops and increase the yields and profits for the farmers and the agriculture industry.

Identified Problems/Opportunities To Help improve Harvesting Efficiency
– Educating pickers on the correct fruit size.
– Reducing the amount of premature fruit being picked

How This Design Solution Will Target and Solve These:
– Haptic feedback and consistent use of the glove will help educate pickers on the correct size.
– Farmers and Foreman will have to spend less time monitoring and teaching new staff.
– The Gloves will increase the number of premature being left on trees though haptic feedback warning pickers if its undersized.
– Less undersized fruit will make it to the packing shed increasing their efficiency and the overall harvesting process’s efficiency.
– Finally, the more undersized fruit left to grow and mature means increased yields and profits for farmers and the Agriculture industry
