Through the use of user research, it was identified that there was a simple but persistent problem with the way we travel. All trips aren't the same, not the same length, destination or purpose. And due to this a single sized bag, does not fit all demands of the modern traveller. So, a prospect was found, to redesign the way we travel with luggage and to make it as adaptable to the traveller that owns it.
Through user research, it was found that some features were a necessity when it came to travelling at an airport
Quick access to electronics and papers when at security
Quick access to items when in the overhead bin
Protecting shoes or other valuables with a separating divider
The sizing of the bag was one of the key aspects of the project, as airport sizing can vary throughout the industry with there being no solid set sizing.
The smallest size for the ECB is the most common maximum carry on size
The largest size for the ECB is set at the most common height for the maximum check-in bag size
The most common expansion on bags is 2-4cm compared to the ECB max 24cm expansion.
The expansion of the bag doesn’t expand like a standard telescopic mechanism but instead expands from the centre of the bag, giving equal strength to the top and bottom.
